Why The Honors College?
The Honors College is about much more than rigorous academics. As a member of the Honors community, you’ll experience a uniquely personalized approach to deeper learning. You’ll collaborate with peers and mentors. And you'll gain access to resources and opportunities that will help you get the most out of your college experience.
Advantages of an Honors College Education
Living-Learning Community
The Honors College Living-Learning Community within Joe E. Berry Residence Hall is the home base of the Honors experience. From day one, you’ll begin to form meaningful friendships with peers. As a bonus, you’ll also start making connections with Honors College faculty and staff whose offices are on the first floor.
Close Mentoring
Working closely with faculty is a core part of the Honors College. In addition to your assigned major advisor, you’ll be mentored by an Honors College faculty advisor who works with you one-on-one. You’ll get to know your mentor on an academic, professional and personal level. These relationships regularly lead to an array of opportunities, from letters of recommendation to industry connections.
Small, Seminar-Style Courses
Honors College classes are made up entirely of Honors College students and average fewer than 18 students per class. This creates an engaging learning environment filled with invigorating coursework.
Scholarship Support
Honors College students are eligible for a variety of merit aid and scholarships, many of which are specifically for Honors College students. This includes dozens of scholarships associated with our top scholars program the Charleston Fellows.
Extensive Opportunities
Honors students have access to all kinds of resources to help you maximize your time at CofC. A few highlights include:
- Summer enrichment funding
- Extracurricular programming
- Student leadership roles
- Priority class registration
Honors Hub
The Honors Hub is a centralized platform for all things honors-related. It’s your one-stop-shop for Honors College announcements, resources, and specialized opportunities. On the Hub, you’ll learn about opportunities like research, internships, jobs, campus events, volunteer roles and more.
